North Sikkim is a stunning part of the Himalayas, famous for its snow-capped peaks, alpine valleys, and serene high-altitude lakes. It’s the perfect escape with its quaint villages, untouched landscapes, and jaw-dropping mountain views. Popular spots include Gurudongmar Lake, Yumthang Valley, and the picturesque villages of Lachen and Lachung. With its breathtaking scenery, calm atmosphere, and thrilling mountain drives, North Sikkim is a dream destination for both nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.

Tour Highlights

Discover the breathtaking high-altitude Gurudongmar Lake, explore the famous Yumthang Valley – known as the Valley of Flowers, and take an optional trip to Zero Point (Yumesamdong) near the Indo-China border. Wander through the charming Himalayan villages of Lachen and Lachung, soak in panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, and marvel at cascading waterfalls along scenic mountain roads. Immerse yourself in the rich Sikkimese culture and warm hospitality for an unforgettable experience.

Arrive at NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport and head to Gangtok, soaking in the scenic drive through the Teesta River valley. Once you’ve checked into your hotel, spend the evening wandering around MG Marg market and relaxing in its cozy local cafes.

After breakfast, set off for Lachen, a charming village in North Sikkim. Enjoy the scenic landscapes along the way, making stops at waterfalls and viewpoints. Arrive in Lachen by evening and check into a hotel or homestay for the night.

Start the day with an early morning drive to Gurudongmar Lake, one of the world’s highest lakes at about 17,800 feet. Take in the stunning views before heading back to Lachen for breakfast. Later, continue the journey to Lachung village for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, head to Yumthang Valley, often called the Valley of Flowers. In spring, it bursts with vibrant alpine blooms, while in winter, it transforms into a stunning snowy wonderland. You can also opt to visit Zero Point before returning to Gangtok for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and head to NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport, carrying with you unforgettable memories of North Sikkim.

The best time to visit is from March to June for blooming flowers, and from October to December for stunning clear mountain views.

Yes, but because of the high altitude, travelers should take it easy and make sure to stay hydrated.

You’ll need special permits to visit Lachen, Lachung, Yumthang Valley, and Gurudongmar Lake.

Children over the age of 5 can travel, but it’s a good idea to take precautions due to the high altitude.

Accommodation options in Lachen and Lachung include hotels and homestays offering basic amenities.

Zero Point is typically optional and comes with an extra charge, depending on vehicle availability.

Lachen is about 120 km from Gangtok, and the journey by road takes roughly 6 to 7 hours.

SUVs such as the Bolero, Sumo, and Scorpio are popular choices for traveling in the mountains.

Snowfall typically happens between December and February, particularly in areas like Yumthang Valley and Zero Point.

Mobile connectivity is patchy, but BSNL and Airtel networks might work in certain spots.
